This sauropod had elongations on its vertebrae; only the African genus Dicraeosaurus is somewhat similar. It also had a double row of spines along its neck, back, and tail.


  The spines have been interpreted as adaptations for defence. There are other possible explanations, e.g. social hierarchy.
